What is Web Development?

Web development mainly consists of 3 parts:

Front-end 

As mentioned above, the front end is the website part, which is visible to the user and with which they can interact. Like website layout, animation, search bars, filters, sliders, etc. 

Back-end 

The back end is the part of the server side where the request and response aspects are handled. To elaborate, when an individual searches for a product, the request is sent to the server. Then, based on the logic and an idea of what user seeks, the data is retrieved from the database and accordingly response is sent to the user.  

Database

The database stores all the data, including the product details, user information, and more.   

How Does a Website Work? 

As we took the example of an E-Commerce Website, it’s time to know how websites like Amazon, Flipkart, and The Souledstore work:

Suppose you opened any of the sites mentioned above and you searched for a ‘T-shirt’, now: 

Front-end

You typed T-shirt in the search bar, and you set the filter- budget, size, etc. 

Back-end

As you click on search, the server is processing the request. 

Database

The server retrieves the whole T-shirt collection from the database, which is eventually displayed on the front-end to the user. 

Not to mention, this process is completed within seconds with the efficient use of code and logic. 

What are the different Components used in Web Development? 

1. Front-end Development:
   
   • HTML: Basic structure of a  Web page.
     
   • CSS: For Website design and layout.
     
   • JavaScript: To add functionality and interactivity to the website.
     
   • Frameworks: Like ReactJS,  which helps in developing dynamic user interface. Moreover, it is easier to create a front-end from React.
     
2. Back-end Development:
   
   • Programming Languages: JavaScript (Node.js), Python, or Java.
     
   • Frameworks: Express.js is a Node.js framework that is used to create servers.
     
   • Server Logic: It handles requests and responses.
     
3. Database Management:
   • NoSQL Databases: Like MongoDB, which stores data.
     
   • SQL Databases: MySQL, in which data is stored and organized in table formats.

What will I learn in Full-Stack Development?

In Full-stack development, you will learn the MERN (MongoDB, ExpressJS, ReactJS, and NodeJS)  stack, which consists of 3 very important elements:

• Front-end ( ReactJS),
  
• Back-end ( Node.js, Express.js),
  
• Database ( MongoDB, MySQL).

What is ReactJS? Can I learn it if I don’t know HTML? 

ReactJS is a popular front-end library used to create interactive web applications. However, to learn React, you must gain a good knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Bootstrap. To learn React and how it works, you should know the syntax of basic web development.  

In React, one creates components, and if you are unaware of functions, import-export-like concepts in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, you wouldn’t be able to understand React. So, if you are eager to learn MERN technology, you must learn HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Bootstrap.    

How to Install VS Code?

A good code editor is required to write code for web development. One of the best code editors on the market is VS Code (Visual Studio Code). VS Code is an IDE (Integrated Development Environment) that consists of extensions like a debugger and terminal, which makes the development process easier.  

To download VS Code:

Search “Visual Studio Code Download” on your browser (Chrome is recommended)

• Click on the first link by the name of “Download Visual Studio Code.”
• Select the Windows version if you have a Windows PC; for Mac, select the Mac version, and the same goes for Linux. 
• When the download is completed, click on the installation file and then select next-next as it appears.
• Once the installation process is completed, open VS Code.
